Even advanced learners sometimes ask: What’s the actual difference? It usually comes down to whether the action is connected to now (present perfect) or clearly in the past and finished (simple past). Example 1: I’ve just eaten lunch. (Still relevant—I’m full now!)

I ate tsukemen today, and it was amazing. The chashu was thick and so delicious. I really enjoyed the meal and felt happy. It gave me some extra energy and motivation. I think I can do my best starting tomorrow. Good food always makes a difference!
